Health Claims Examiner/Medical Biller students learn the principles of health insurance and medical billing, industry terminology, theory and practical application, communication, and customer service skills, computer skills and more.
Massage Therapy
With the fast growing demand for Massage Therapists there are many employment opportunities! As a Massage Therapist you can work in different settings that include private practice, medical clinics, chiropractic offices, acupuncture clinics, day spas, fitness centers, and physical therapists' offices. They can also provide service to sports teams or sport related medical facilities. Our hands-on fast track career programs are designed to teach you the skills you need to enter the job market quickly and begin building your future.
Medical Assistants
Medical Assistants have become a vital part of the health care team and their responsibilities continue to expand. According to the US. Department of Labor Medical Assisting is one of the fastest growing occupations particularly the flexible MA's who can handle both Administrative and clinical duties. The Medical Assistant program is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to begin their careers in a medical office, clinic, HMO or other health care setting.
Optical Dispensing
As a graduate of our program, you'll be qualified to work as a dispensing optician, ophthalmic lab technician, contact lens fitter, eye doctor's assistant, manufacturer's representative, optical office manager and more. Considering that more than 70% of the population requires eyewear, this is a field with a lot of opportunity. Not only that, the U.S. Department of Labor predicts a 35% growth rate over the next 10 years!
Surgical Technology
Surgical Technologists are currently in demand at hospitals, outpatient surgery centers, doctors' offices, and registries. As the population grows, the need for surgical procedures will increase dramatically along with the demand for Surgical Technologists. Many Surgical Technologists go on to become registered nurses, physician assistants and even surgeons.
Vocational Nursing
Vocational Nursing is a respected, rewarding career that allows you to help people each and every day. It's a career that offers high demand opportunities for qualified nurses in hospitals, doctor's offices, clinics, schools, colleges, home health agencies and convalescent homes. It's also a great first step for those considering further advancement in nursing or other healthcare-related professions.
AmericanCareer Collegeoffers a challenging yet rewarding training program for qualified students. You'll become proficient in the fundamentals of nursing and patient care, including assessment, diagnostic measurements, procedures and treatments. You'll also learn anatomy and physiology, medical surgical nursing, newborn and child care, pharmacology, infectious diseases and much more. The combined academic and clinical training will prepare you for the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-PN) for licensure as a practical/vocational nurse meeting the standards set by the Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians.
Associate of Occupational Science Degree in Health Information Technology (only available at Orange County location)
An Associate of Occupational Science Degree in Health Information Technology will give you the chance to combine an interest in computers and technology with the growing career opportunities of the healthcare industry. You can find work as a health data analyst, clinical coding specialist, or patient information coordinator, working side by side with doctors and nurses*. During your clinical practicum course, you'll have the opportunity to practice using the same technology you've become familiar with in class in a professional healthcare setting. Since this program consists of an online component, a laptop computer will be provided. Students may choose to use their own laptop if it meets the requirements needed to fulfill the online component of the HIT curriculum*. Talk to your Admissions Representative for more details.
American Career College is accredited by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools. The HIT Associate Degree program is in Candidacy Status, pending accreditation review by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM).
Many employers of health information technicians either limit their hiring, or give hiring preference to candidates who are Registered Health Information Technicians (RHIT). In order for a student to become an RHIT upon graduation, the student must pass a certification examination for RHIT administered by the Council of Certification on the American Health Information Management Association.
