The core curriculum of the Baltimore School of Massage and the Viriginia School of Massage is the 637 Hour Professional Massage Training Program. It includes an in-depth study of Swedish Massage, Deep Tissue Massage and Myofascial Release Techniques as well as additional related modalities that add impact to the training. The student's study will include: anatomy & physiology, body movement in relation to body mechanics, expansion of the mind/body relationship, business building and ethics & professionalism. They are also required to do Student Clinic, and encouraged to participate in Community Outreach. The entire program is designed to refine the students' sense of touch [for palpation skills] and to synthesize all of the program elements. In this way, graduates will have obtained the skills and tools necessary to become professional qualified practitioners.
This program offers the most pertinent theoretical and practical components of skin care training. The theory component emphasizes the study of the structure and function of the human body, the latest body and facial treatments, dermatology, product chemistry, and product ingredients. The theoretical experience will also expose students to business and career development, salon safety, Maryland laws and regulations, and salon sanitation. The practical portion of the program will develop the student's dexterity, manipulative skills, and confidence required to be an effective esthetician. The Basic Skin Care Program offers instruction in basic facials, makeup application, extensive waxing procedures, non-wax hair removal, and rapid exfoliants. Students will be using state of the industry equipment and will be exposed to exceptional guest speakers and faculty who are well renowned in their areas of expertise. This program meets the requirements set forth in the Maryland State Board of Cosmetology and offers reciprocity in 38 states.
This program will combine the student's knowledge of massage therapy with specific instruction in health related physical fitness. The massage therapy component addresses such areas as Swedish massage, human anatomy and physiology, hydrotherapy, and current allied modalities. The health-related fitness component of the program addresses the four entities of fitness: cardio-respiratory endurance, muscle strength, nutrition (body composition), and flexibility.
This 937-hour program will augment the students' knowledge of massage with specific training in spa treatments and spa operations. Studies include wet room body treatments,(hydrotherapy, body exfoliation, body masks, and body wraps), dry room body treatments (specialized massage, stretching, body brushing, thermal heat applications, and dry sauna), and bodywork techniques (stone massage, Shiatsu, lymphatic drainage, deep tissue, hot oil and aromatic massages, craniosacral therapy, and reflexology) in resort, destination, or day spa settings; at hair salons and gyms that offer spa services; and within the cruise ship spa industry.
