Architectural Technician
Broadly speaking, the term green has become a blanket term for a range of environmentally friendly approaches to building design and is more aptly referred to as Sustainable Design. Sustainability implies using resources with maximum efficiency and at a rate that does not compromise the needs of future generations.
This green imperative is beginning to be a part of mainstream post-secondary education. It's well known that one of the current difficulties architectural and design firms face, in re-tooling their practices is the lack of "green" skills within their offices and the unavailability of such trained professionals in the work force. Our mission has become to graduate students who have the training and skills in sustainable building technology. Our Advisory Committee, in endorsing the new program initiative, agrees that graduates from this program should be prepared to meet the needs of a changing industry, now and in the future.
The program emphasis will be on engaging industry and appropriating technological innovation. Our students will have an opportunity to become part of a new generation of architectural technology graduates that can take environmental responsibility and sustainability in education beyond awareness and into action, and environmental leadership.
