Each American Institute facility has an ultrasound lab where you build scanning skills under the guidance of a resident instructor. There are weekday and weekend schedules available. Students in weekday labs typically come to the facility a few days per month. Students in weekend labs come even less. That's it for campus-driven classes. All of your theory courses are conducted interactively online so you can participate from the comfort and convenience of wherever you'd like.

We understand that you don’t have the time or inclination to study a lot of material that is not actually necessary to the practice of your chosen profession.

Our Student to equipment ratio is typically 3:1. Our theory class work groups typically have 12 -18 students per instructor.

You’ll gain extensive real world experience under the tutelage of a clinic mentor at an externship site affiliated with our School – a clinic, a physician’s office or a hospital. Clinical sites are designed to be close to where you live or work, although, the number of miles may vary based on clinical availability.

- Do I need previous experience in Healthcare to succeed in Sonography? [?]
NO. What you need is a serious desire to succeed, a passion about working with and helping people, and an interest in using technology to do so. While many students who enter the field come from the ranks of nurses, radiologic technicians and other healthcare professionals, most have no previous healthcare education.
- Will I have to attend classes for years? [?]
No. Our program can typically be completed in 18 months. Few fields that can be studied within less than 18 months offers what sonography does - whether in terms of compensation, flexibility, prestige, or mobility according to the U.S. Department of Labor.
- Will I qualify to sit for appropriate professional certifications upon graduation? [?]
YES. Students who meet our admissions requirements and graduate from our program are eligible to sit for the relevant exams administered by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS). The ARDMS is the most widely recognized professional certifying organization for Sonographers in the US. There are other similar organizations with varying eligibility requirements. All organizations may change their requirements.

There are a variety of work environments for the Sonographer including; hospitals, doctors offices, imaging centers, and mobile services. Also, work schedules are flexible and can part-time, full-time or PRN (as needed). According to the US Department of Labor "Additional job growth is expected as sonography becomes an increasingly attractive alternative to radiologic procedures, as patients seek safer treatment methods".
