Here's what makes the GMC Sustainable MBA program so unique:
In-Depth Exploration & Application of Sustainable Business Concepts and Practices: We weave sustainability throughout our entire MBA curriculum. Our program emphasizes the development of skills and knowledge to achieve and maintain sustainable competitive advantage. Our students can apply what they learn in their current organizations, enhancing the student's and the organization's reputations and value.
Low Residency Requirement Reduces Travel Time & Expense: We only require one residency per year, and unlike other sustainable MBA programs, we use our residencies to build relationships and learning among our students, faculty, scholars in residence and sustainable business leaders. This means our students spend less money on obtaining their MBA degree and less time away from work and family.
Leading Faculty: Our faculty possesses in-depth experience teaching and practicing sustainable business. Many of our faculty have held executive positions at leading sustainable businesses and have extensive networks within the sustainable business community.
Recognized College Leadership in Sustainability: Green Mountain College has been focused on sustainability for over a decade and is consistently ranked among the top colleges & universities in the world with an environmental mission. In 2010 we were selected by Sierra magazine as the #1 green college in the United States.
Student Variety: GMC students span the United States and the Globe, bringing a breadth of perspectives and experiences not available in sustainable MBA programs that draw most students from the same geographic area.
Alumni Accomplishment: Our alumni have applied their GMC MBA to become chief sustainability officers, start their own sustainability consulting practices and deepen the practice of sustainability within their existing organizations and communities. Because of the relationships that are formed throughout the program, our alumni remain connected with one another and GMC, creating a rich network of sustainable business practitioners.
Proven Online Learning System & Small Classes Facilitate Learning: We've been teaching online longer than any other sustainable MBA program. Our students can focus on their studies, not on dealing with technological glitches. In addition, we cap classes at no more than 20 students per section. This ensures that students can meaningfully interact with their fellow students and receive individualized attention from the course instructor.
We want you to help you choose the Sustainable MBA program that best fits your individual goals and needs. So, in addition to answering any of your questions about the GMC MBA program, we have created a comparison sheet that makes it easy to compare different MBA programs.
To deepen your knowledge and illustrate the College's unique approach to graduate studies, we invite you to participate in any or all of these free webinars offered by GMC faculty members and alumni.
A Quality Online Learning Experience
We have been offering distance education since 2006, and take great pride in the fact that the vast majority of students who start our program graduate in the normal two year timeframe. Our online learning platform, and the experience that our faculty have teaching online, contribute to an enjoyable and successful online learning experience. We are the ideal program for any working professional who wants to obtain an MBA in sustainability while keeping his/her current employment and minimizing time away from family and work.
Program Basics
Students purchase textbooks and are expected to have access to common word processing, spreadsheet, and graphic presentation software. Other class materials from your professor will be accessible through a web site, so you will need reliable high speed Internet access and web browser such as Internet Explorer or Firefox. This web site is also where you and your classmates will post projects and be able to chat with one another. The on-line classroom, email and telephone are the primary means by which you, your advisor, and your professors communicate with each other.
Student Support Services
Students in our distance learning graduate program will have access not only to outstanding business and economics faculty, but also to GMC's administrative support resources and Griswold Library. Library resources include more than 24,000 on-line book titles, robust electronic research tools including Lexis-Nexis Academic Universe, JSTOR, Proquest Research Library, and Oxford Reference Online Premium, more than 1,000 current and back-filed periodicals, Interlibrary Loan services, and the 72,000-volume main collection. Reference and research assistance from professional library staff is also available.
The GMC Sustainable MBA requires 37 hours of Green Mountain College graduate credits. Most of the courses are 3 credits and last six weeks. Course sections are capped at 20 students per section to support student learning and allow for individualized feedback from the course instructor. When more than 20 students sign up for the same course, the course is divided into multiple sections; as a result, most of our course sections range from 10-18 students – creating an ideal online learning environment. The courses are typically taken sequentially year round, with a one week break in-between each course. Students focus on the content of each course as they proceed through the program and most students take the courses in the same order. We emphasize the development of leadership skills and the use of teams to support learning. Students complete individual and virtual team projects by applying skills and knowledge needed for success in today’s for profit and nonprofit organizations and engage with one another and their instructors in asynchronous discussions. Green Mountain College's MBA curriculum teaches the specific skills and knowledge associated with a rigorous graduate degree in business administration. Courses cover:
Students complete a survey after every course evaluating the effectiveness of the course and the course instructor. This feedback is used by the instructor and MBA Program Director to ensure that our courses are valuable and relevant to our students. Our commitment to student satisfaction and continuous program improvement is unparalleled among online Sustainable MBA programs.
