The Medical Laboratory Technician program is designed to prepare graduates to perform laboratory procedures in a variety of settings. Students will take courses in medical terminology, biology and chemistry. Students will learn how to perform routine diagnostic tests, including tests in hematology, bacteriology, urinalysis, immunology, and chemistry. Students will also do a clinical internship to gain valuable clinical experience in a laboratory or other medical facility.
Medical laboratory technicians work in general medical and surgical hospitals and medical and diagnostic laboratories. Medical laboratory technicians prepare specimens and operate automated analyzers. They develop data on blood, tissues, and fluids of the human body by using a variety of precise methodologies and technologies. The technician has knowledge of specific techniques and instruments and is able to recognize factors that directly affect procedures and results. They also monitor quality assurance procedures.
