Why Chiropractic?
If you have an interest in health care and a passion for serving others, chiropractic is the choice for you. Consumers are becoming more aware of the connection between their lifestyle behaviors and their health, and many are exploring the natural benefits of alternative health care. In response to this growing demand, employment of chiropractors has soared and is expected to increase faster than average for all occupations, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Parker College of Chiropractic offers a ten-trimester Doctor of Chiropractic graduate degree program that condenses a four-year academic program into three and one half calendar years. The flexibility of the system allows you to graduate sooner and get a head start on your career.
Prerequisites
To get started on your journey to becoming a doctor of chiropractic at Parker College, you only need to fulfill 75 of the 90 college-level prerequisite hours. Parker College offers the option to complete undergraduate prerequisite credits at Parker, where you will be taught by many of the same professors who instruct the chiropractic program. After completing the prerequisite courses, you are eligible for matriculation into the D.C. program.
You can also complete your bachelor’s degrees in Health & Wellness and/or Anatomy at the same time as your doctor of chiropractic degree. These degrees give students additional opportunities to expand their expertise in the health care field.
Prevent Disease and Promote Health
While the public often thinks of chiropractors as bone doctors, they are really nerve specialists. The nervous system is the master system, controlling and coordinating all functions within the body. When nerve flow is disrupted, the body isn’t able to communicate with itself properly, which is when disease settles in. Chiropractors adjust bones and structures in order to free nerves from irritation, allowing the body to communicate and heal itself as it was designed to do. Many chiropractors focus on wellness, including nutritional counseling, exercise recommendations, and tips for achieving mental and emotional well-being. Wellness is a balance of the physical, mental, and emotional aspects, and is essential to true healthy living.
