Heavy Equipment Training Course is 8 weeks long. Three hundred twenty (320) clock hours. Approximately 50% of the course is spent in the field and 50% in the classroom.

Graduates are qualified to operate backhoes, trackhoes, dozers, scrapers, graders and loaders in construction and maintenance fields. In addition to Heavy Equipment Operation, graduates are qualified to perform jobs in site-preparation, set-up, flaggers, grade-checking and survey crews.

No sharing equipment after first 4 days of instruction. Approximately 4 hours operating your own equipment daily. Direct hands-on operation of backhoes, trackhoes, bulldozers, loaders, graders and scrapers. Students will spend approximately 50% of training time in the field doing designed projects, including set-up, grade checking, cut and fill and preventative maintenance. Each student will specialize in 2 pieces of equipment.

Classroom time consists of engineering, safety, applied math and volume computations. Surveying training consists in use of transit levels, chain and rod, plumb bob and hand-sight levels. Actual projects are surveyed throughout the student tenure. Students perform all projects under the supervision of instructors who advise and guide them, as needed. Construction conditions exist to train students in a work atmosphere.

Additional heavy equipment training is available. Current course costs: $7,255.05

Crane operator training course is 4 weeks long. One hundred sixty (160) clock hours. Approximately 50% of the course is spent in the field and 50% in the classroom. Certified graduates will be qualified to perform as a rigger and signal person.

Direct hands-on operation of truck-mounted, self-propelled and track-mounted cranes with hydraulic and lattice booms rigged with hook blocks, clamshells and dragline attachments in their proper application.

Students will spend approximately 50% of training time in the field doing designed lifts, projects, rigging and signaling with the above attachments while following all safety precautions also doing equipment safety inspections.

Classroom time consists of classes on proper nomenclature of cranes, wire rope and attachments, and proper operation. Hand signals and equipment inspections. Students perform all projects under the supervision of instructors who advise and guide them as needed. Construction conditions exist to train students in a work atmosphere.

West Coast Training is now offering a 160 hour Dump Truck Training Program.

Many changes have taken place within the construction industry over the past decade. Large construction companies are no longer handling all of the heavy equipment work, but are sub-contracting to smaller construction companies. This is creating a demand for Heavy Equipment Operators with a Class A CDL who are able to move the equipment from site to site. West Coast Training provides the training necessary for students who want this capability when going out into the current work force.

You will acquire the skills needed by many employers with operations that involve heavy equipment operators loading, securing, transporting and unloading their equipment to various construction job locations.

Course Description
Upon passing the program, the student will have the opportunity to complete the driving portion of the CDL (Commercial Driver's License) Class A.

Each student will receive 160 hours of instruction that includes 40 hours in the classroom, and 120 hours of "hands on training" with a minimum of 50 hours behind the wheel.

The cost of these is not included in your tuition. WA State will also require $100 skills fee upon permit issuance.

On construction projects where handling hazardous materials is required, employees must have Hazwoper 120 Certification. This is an Environmental Protection Agency regulation.

Environmental companies in the construction field requiring operators with the proper HAZMAT certificates is continuing to grow. Many are sending experienced operators to West Coast Training to attend class and obtain this skill.

Course Description
40 Hour Hazardous Materials Incident Response Operations (EPA 165.5) OSHA requires training in 29 CFR 1910.120(e)(3)(I) for workers on RCRA and CERLA sites as well as sites recognized by other government agencies.

This course allows safety, health and environmental personnel, heavy equipment operators, technicians, and others involved with investigation and remediation of hazardous waste facilities to meet OSHA's requirements.

Students who successfully complete this course receive a OSHA Hazwoper 120 Certification Card.

OSHA requires students to take an annual refresher class to maintain training certification.
