ACUPUNCTURE PROGRAM FACT SHEET

    • Students train in Sitting and Moving Meditation – developing skills such as patience, mindfulness, compassion & equinimity, benefitting both practitioner and patient care.
Educational Objectives
Graduates will be able to:

  • Diagnose and treat patients according to diverse acupuncture techniques and styles.
  • Integrate Eastern and Western biomedical theories.
  • Demonstrate increased compentency in utilizing the specific skills of meditation such as self-awareness, listening ability, focus, clarity and equanimity as an acupuncture practitioner.
  • Pass the national certification examination in acupuncture and qualify for licensure in Pennsylvania.
  • Middle States Commission on Higher Education accreditation for the Institute.
    • MSCHE granted Won Institute full accreditation in June 2008.
      • To grant accreditation and to request a monitoring report, due by April 1, 2010, documenting (1) development and implementation of an organized and sustained process for the assessment of institutional effectiveness (Standard 7); and (2) steps taken to support faculty research (Standard 10). The next evaluation visit is scheduled for 2012-2013.
  • Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM) for the Acupuncture Studies Program.
    • The Master of Acupuncture program of the Won Institute of Graduate Studies is a candidate for accreditation with ACAOM and is in the process of seeking accreditation. ACAOM is the recognized accrediting agency for the approval of programs preparing acupuncture and Oriental medicine practitioners.
    • While in candidacy, the students in the Acupuncture program are eligible to sit for the national boards administered by NCCAOM.

  • Full-time 3-year Master of Acupuncture Studies program is $16,900 annually. There is no part-time option.
  • The Won Institute participates in the Federal Student Aid program and students who are eligible may apply for graduate Stafford loans and Graduate Plus loans. For 2008-09, the Stafford Loan limit is $20,500 per year.
