Officially formed in 1992, as a result of the Greater Hartford Community College and Hartford State Technical College merger, Capital Community College has developed into a comprehensive, open door, two-year institution of higher learning. With its location in the heart of Hartford, and a long history, this Connecticut college has educated nearly 240,000 students since 1969, and has awarded over 10,000 degrees. As of the autumn of 2006, nearly 4,000 credit-earning students were enrolled in Capital Community College.

Today, Capital Community College offers 34 associate degree programs and 27 certificate programs. These courses can be taught on campus or online, and range from subjects such as business office technology, labor studies, health science, computer programming, and marketing, to computer and information systems, computer-aided drafting, architectural engineering technology, and medical assisting.

In addition to its traditional academic programs, Capital Community College offers courses and services that are aimed at meeting the educational and training needs of individuals, business, and community organizations in the area.

  • Both the Connecticut Board of Governors for Higher Education, and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Inc. (NEASC) have accredited Capital Community College.

  • Some individual programs within the school have been accredited by outside institutions. These include the Radiologic Technology Associate Degree program, which has been accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology, and the Associate Degree in Nursing program that has been accredited by the National League for Nursing Accreditation Commission.

  • This North Carolina college has major transfer agreements with four-year institutions such as Eastern Connecticut State University, Saint Joseph College, and the University of Connecticut.

  • At Capital Community College students participate in activities like the Latin American Student Association (LASA), Martial Arts Club, the Pre-Professional Club, Vietnamese Student Association, Philosophy Club, and Ski Club.
