With a total of 28 program offerings, Eastern Maine Community College stands as a two-year institution of higher learning that's committed to the creation of an educated and skilled community. Formerly known as Eastern Maine Vocational Technical Institute when it was founded in 1966 by the state, this Maine college has grown into school that's focused on career, technical, and academic education. Toward this end, Eastern Maine Community College now offers one-year certificates, diplomas (both one-year and two-year), and associate degree programs.
From medical radiography, medical transcription, and nursing, to the culinary arts, business management, and welding and pipe fabrication, there's a career training program for nearly anyone. As for students who are interested in increasing their educational horizons and credentials, this Maine college offers such traditional academic programs as English, the fine arts and languages, and liberal studies. Although the highest an Eastern Maine Community College student can attain in these areas is an associate degree, they can also choose to transfer their credits to a traditional four-year college or university for the purpose of earning a bachelor's degree.

Individual programs within the school have been accredited by outside institutions. For example, the nursing program has been accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission, Inc., while the surgical technology program has been accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).
In order to aid in the transfer of credits from school to school, Eastern Maine Community College has articulation agreements with the University of Maine System, Husson College, Maine Maritime Academy, and the University of New England.
This Maine college is attended by over 1,200 students, and employs nearly 200 faculty members.
