Housatonic Community College is located in Bridgeport -- Connecticut's largest city -- and is a comprehensive two-year institution that provides degree programs, certificate programs, continuing education courses, and business and industry services for the community. Students are prepared to continue their education, and to transfer their credits to four-year institutions throughout the country. The career programs of the College prepare graduates for occupations in business, industry and the health services that ordinarily require no more than two years of collegiate study. All career curricula at Housatonic Community College include a core of studies in liberal and general education as well as technical and occupational courses.
Housatonic Community College also offers a broad variety of certificate programs and program options to prepare students for employment or advancement in business, industry, allied health, and public service organizations. Academic support services designed to help students succeed include Writing Across the Curriculum Center, Bilingual Transitional Program, a program for those with disabilities, and free tutoring. A highly qualified and committed faculty and staff provide these support and instructional services primarily at the main campus and other sites within the service area to meet educational needs.
Student services and support are an integral part of campus life at Housatonic Community College. Academic support, such as tutoring services, study groups, writing workshops and more, are available through the Academic Support Center. The Academic Advising Center assists students with matters such as planning their program of study, declaring a major, and preparing to transfer. In addition to the academic support available at Housatonic Community College, counseling is also provided for students to help them identify and overcome the various barriers that might prevent them from succeeding. The goal of the entire staff of professionals and faculty members at Housatonic Community College is for students to achieve success by reaching the academic and personal goals set for them.
