Before Northeast State Technical Community College became the comprehensive two-year institution of higher learning that it is today, it was the Tri-Cities State Area Vocational-Technical School, founded in 1966. In the years since then, however, Northeast State Technical Community College has grown into the respected community college that it is today, with an enrollment of over 5,000 credit-earning students. Currently under the governing power of the Tennessee Board of Regents of the State University and Community College System of Tennessee, this community college is dedicated to the professional growth and personal enrichment of the residents of Carter, Johnson, Sullivan, Unicoi, and Washington counties.
Towards this end, this Tennessee college offers a wide array of programs and courses that are sure to fit most anyone's future goals and education levels. From continuing education and community service programs for community members, to career programs and university parallel programs, Northeast State Technical Community College provides -- not only for casual learners -- but for career-oriented and academically-aspiring students as well.

This Tennessee college's articulation agreements with traditional four-year colleges and universities -- such as East Tennessee State University, University of Tennessee - Knoxville, and Austin Peay State University -- allows for graduates of the associate degree program to transfer easily into a bachelor's degree program while maintaining status as a junior.
Northeast State Technical Community College students can earn an Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, Associate of Science in Teaching, or Associate of Applied Science Degree.
According to a report published by the Tennessee Higher Education Commission in 2006, on average, more students who begin at Northeast State Technical Community College, continue on with their education than those who started at other community colleges in Tennessee.
