Since 1966, Parkland College has provided community members with the opportunity for an affordable vocational, technical, and academic education. Over the last 40 years, the Illinois college has played a vital role in the District 505 community and business life through its dedication to providing high quality services and programs to students and the area. Through this all, Parkland College has managed to grow in leaps and bounds.

In fact, these days, Parkland College boasts nearly 12,000 credit and non-credit earning students on a 233-acre campus. The reason for their interest is clear; Parkland College offers the career and transfer programs, community courses and workshops, and online classes that appeal to people no matter what their educational background or goals for the future. Students who interested in attaining a bachelor's degree should also know that, thanks to a partnership with Franklin University, Parkland College is able to offer a Bachelor of Science degree online. In addition, this Illinois College's online courses have been specifically accredited since 2001.

At Parkland College, students participate in such after-school activities and organizations as Karate Club, Hospitality Industry Club, Massage Therapy Students Association, Veterinary Technicians Association, and Women in Computer Science and Information Technologies.

The athletics department at this community college features such sports and activities as volleyball, men's and women's basketball, cheerleading/dance, golf, and men's and women's soccer.

Since 1987, Parkland College has been proud to be home of the William M. Staerkel Planetarium.

As of the 2003-04 school year, approximately 3,000 students attended Parkland College and the University of Illinois thanks to shared/concurrent enrollment.

The Parkland College campus features 60 specialized labs, an FM radio station, a TV production studio, and an experimental agricultural land laboratory, plus much more.
