In September 1966, the 22nd Florida community college, Santa Fe Community College, held classes for 889 students at the former Buchholz High School building downtown. The first list of course offerings was issued on August 2, 1966, and included a total of 25 different courses. Since that time, Santa Fe's student population has grown to more than 16,000 and we now offer more than a thousand different courses. Meanwhile, the college has gained a national reputation for academic excellence and innovative leadership.
In its 40 years, Santa Fe has awarded 40,571 associate degrees and awarded a grand total of 64,398 degrees (A.A., A.S., A.A.S. and V.C.). About 60 percent of our students who complete an A.A. transfer to UF. Our A.S. graduates serve the community as nurses, builders, business owners, and in a variety of other capacities.

More than 60 percent of Associate of Arts graduates from Santa Fe Community College continue their education at the University of Florida, while approximately 15 percent continue their education at other State Universities.
