Three Rivers Community College is a multi-campus commuter college that serves Southeastern Connecticut and eastern regions of the state with a variety of credit and non-credit degree and certificate programs designed to meet the dynamic needs of the learning community.

Three Rivers Community College was formed in 1992 as a result of a mandate enacted by the Connecticut General Assembly, which merged community and technical colleges in five geographic areas around Connecticut. Named in recognition of the region's three primary rivers- the Shetucket, the Yantic and the Thames, the Connecticut college was formed from the merger of Mohegan Community College and Thames Valley State Technical College, both located in Norwich.

Currently, Three Rivers Community College is still housed on both campuses. The college also has two off-campus instructional centers located at the Naval Submarine Base in Groton and Ella Grasso Technical School in Groton, CT. The student population of over 3,600 enrolled students and 2,600 Continuing Education students continues to grow. Through the integration of technical, career, and liberal arts programs within the college, Three Rivers Community College's students are able to move with greater ease from one program to another.

Three Rivers Open Admissions policy guarantees all high school graduates, or those with a General Educational Diploma (GED), admission to Three Rivers Community College's associate degree and certificate programs.

Continuing Education programs are self-supporting at Three Rivers Community College. Each year more than 3,000 residents become involved in noncredit courses, seminars, and workshops at this Connecticut college, as well as the many cultural activities and special educational services offered through the Department.

Three Rivers Community College provides face-to-face, hybrid and completely online courses and is a member of the Connecting Distance Learning Consortium.
