Tunxis Community College serves incoming students who are looking to develop new skills or enhance current ones, improve performance, change paths or advance their career. The Connecticut college opened for classes in October of 1970 with 494 students and today, approximately 7,000 full- and part-time students attend Tunxis Community College each year.
Tunxis Community College is accredited by the Connecticut Board of Governors for Higher Education and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges Incorporated and is authorized to award associate degrees in arts and sciences in such areas of study as arts and media, business office technology and drug and alcohol recovery.
In Spring of 2006, over 1,000 Tunxis Community College students were enrolled in credit online courses, which equates to nearly one in every five students at the Connecticut college. In addition to the hundreds of courses offered at its brick-and-mortar institution, Tunxis Community College offers 38 web-based courses that are accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Tunxis Community College main campus facilities feature a computer center, state-of-the-art dental lab, art and design studios, health services and childcare center. A collaboration between the Connecticut college's satellite facility, Bristol Career Center of Tunxis, and the city now enables Tunxis to expand its education and training opportunities in new ways. Too, the Connecticut college is also undergoing an expansion of its main campus.
