Founded in 1971 as Western Nevada Community College, this member of the Nevada System of Higher Education was renamed Western Nevada College in 2007. From its original campus in Carson City, this Nevada college has grown to include campuses in Fallon and Minden/Gardenerville, in addition to instructional centers in Fernley, Lake Tahoe, Hawthorne, Dayton, Yerington, Smith Valley, and Lovelock. Now with a student enrollment of over 6,000 per semester, Western Nevada College is community college that is dedicated to providing a comprehensive education.

Towards this end, the Nevada college offers a wide variety of degree and certificate programs to students. For example, associate degree programs are available in anything from automotive mechanics, paralegal studies, management, and computer science, to nursing, criminal justice, accounting, real estate, and engineering science. Certificates of achievement, meanwhile, are offered in such subjects as American Sign Language, medical coding, retail management, computer programming, and early childhood education.

For students who are interested in eventually transferring to a traditional four-year college or university, it is important to know that the Associate of Arts and Associate of Science degree programs at Western Nevada were specifically designed to enable such a move.
