Have you ever looked at a friend's resume and noticed he is a certified ATACP or TESOL? While it may just seem like a bunch of meaningless letters, these professional certificates can help you land the job of your dreams. If you want to develop your skills, expand your current knowledge, and apply new ideas to in your current profession, then certificate programs may be for you.

Certificate programs are designed to enhance your knowledge, skills, and leadership in a particular profession, such as Web design, information technology, accounting, or education. These courses are renowned for allotting hands-on experience that is invaluable in the workforce. Most programs are completed online or through night classes that easily accommodate your already demanding schedule. Often certifications are meant to complement a bachelor's degree, but most allow you to enroll on a certificate or non-certificate basis.

You can find certificate programs at both two-year and four-year colleges, as well as at technical and professional schools. If the program you're interested in is offered at your current university, set up an appointment to speak with an advisor about getting into the class. If your university doesn't offer the professional certificates you want, surf the Internet for programs you're interested in and request more information by mail.

Whether you're in pursuit of a new profession, or just looking to enhance your current career opportunities, certifications will integrate knowledge you already possess with the latest information and up-to-date skills for on-the-job application. Certificate programs may be hard work, but those letters that were nothing more than an acronym to you a while ago could make a world of difference in your profession now.
