Fashion Marketing Schools Launch Stylish and Savvy Careers

So what does it take to work in a fashion marketing career? The answer is simple: fashion marketing schools and degrees. Matt Mayerson, senior vice president of product placement at BWR PPI, a marketing and public relations company in Beverly Hills, CA, knows the importance of a degree firsthand. It was his bachelor's degree in economics from the University of California in Los Angeles that helped him get his foot in the door of a successful fashion marketing career. "While I was in college I had an internship at Propaganda Films. I worked at a film production office for the executive producer of the commercial and music video division," he recalls. Now, Mayerson does fashion marketing for clients like Kasil Jeans, Trule Love and False Idols, Geoff Thomas Designs, Patricia Candido Jewelry, Local Celebirty Clothing, just to name a few.

As demonstrated by Mayerson's internship experience -- the benefit of fashion marketing schools takes place both in and out of the classroom.

Once you're out of school, you can put your degree, as well as the experiences and lessons learned in the classroom toward your professional career in fashion marketing. "I really enjoyed my communications classes. economics was hard, but the theory classes were actually interesting," Mayerson explains. "They taught me a lot about how society works through the way economics works. And since the economy is a driving force for just about everything -- including war, power shifts, etc. -- they were all a part of a larger puzzle." Mayerson routinely exercises these lessons in his day-to-day dealings with clients and the media as a whole.

Street Smarts + Fashion Marketing Schools
While education is paramount for practically any professional career, Mayerson believes there's more to a career pro's credibility. "When I got out of college, I immediately started working on learning how to run a business," says Mayerson. "I would say that book smarts are key, but street smarts will get you further." While Mayerson maintains that he's a proponent of education, he says "getting your hands dirty and getting hands-on experience is critical for success." Because of this, he advises students to go into fashion marketing schools specifically. This way, they'll have the opportunity to work in the field while taking courses. When courses are that intricate, students have a better chance of concentrating on their intended fashion marketing career destination. "Book smarts can only teach you so much," he explains.

"It goes without saying, education is very important in order to get where you are," Mayerson adds. "The key is persistence -- in the classroom and in the field." A career in fashion marketing can be yours once you attend fashion marketing schools, get real-life experience out in the field, and build your contact base. In any facet of marketing, "it's all about who you know and working hard," says Mayerson. A degree from one of the top-notch fashion marketing schools won't hurt either.
