| Take a Career Aptitude Test Today |
| by Robyn Tellefsen |
You're ready to launch your career, but you're not sure where you'd be best suited. You enjoy working with people, so you've considered the helping professions. But when it comes to projects, you prefer to work independently. Which career path should you choose?
That's where a Career Aptitude Test can be helpful. While no test can tell you exactly who you are and what you'll become, career assessments offer insight into your areas of strength, weakness, and interest, and can help you translate those traits into a good career match. Here's a snapshot of some of the most popular career aptitude tests around.
Career Aptitude Test: Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)
Career Assessment: This test can help you assess your personality type and explore career options.
Career Report: You will be identified with one of 16 distinct personality types. Order the MBTI Career Report, which applies your results from the assessment to help you identify job families and occupations that are a good fit for your reported type.
Career Match: Log onto www.discoveryourpersonality.com to take the 93-question, 15- to 20-minute test online. You'll receive a personalized, nine-page report, along with a phone consultation. If you'd like to bypass the $65 fee, check with your school's career office to see if it offers the MBTI for free.
Career Aptitude Test: Strong Interest Inventory
Career Assessment: This test measures interests, not skills or abilities, and can help you make satisfying career decisions.
Career Report: Order the 2004 Revised Strong Interpretive Report to learn how your interests match professional careers. You'll also learn about your personal style, which provides insight into work environments likely to suit you best.
Career Match: Log onto www.discoveryourpersonality.com to take the 291-question, 35- to 40-minute test online. For $80, you'll receive a 10-page profile, followed by a nine-page interpretive report, along with a phone consultation.
Career Aptitude Test: Keirsey Temperament Sorter-II
Career Assessment: This test can help you discover your personality type, an important factor in career and work environment selection.
Career Report: You will be sorted into one of four temperament groups: Artisan, Guardian, Rational, or Idealist. You will also be sorted into one of 16 character types.
Career Match: The 70-question sorter is available online at www.keirsey.com, and takes about 10 minutes to complete. You'll receive a free temperament report, and you can pay $14.95 to receive a personalized, 10-page report with an in-depth interpretation of your temperament and type, along with career advice based on your temperament.
Career Aptitude Test: Campbell Interest and Skill Survey
Career Assessment: This test can help you gain a thorough understanding of suitable career options, focusing on nearly 60 occupations that require postsecondary education.
Career Report: Your report compares your results with the results of those who are successfully employed in the same fields you're interested in. It also includes a comprehensive career planner to help you interpret your results and plan for your New Career.
Career Match: Take 25-40 minutes to complete the 320-question survey (200 interest and 120 skill items) at www.profiler.com/ciss/ncs. For $18, you'll receive a personalized 18- to 20-page report.
