Western Career College
by Genevieve M. Blaber
For adult learners and high school graduates ready to make the jump into a new profession, career schools provide the training and credentials they need to be taken seriously. With this in mind, the faculty and staff at Western Career College have taken the extra steps to get students from the classroom and into the working world.
Founded in 1967, Western Career College has dedicated itself to the communities and residents of California by providing quality career training programs. In fact, Western Career College has received accreditation from the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and enjoys status as a subsidiary of U.S. Education.
With eight campuses spread across northern California -- including the recently acquired Silicon Valley College campuses in Emeryville, Fremont, San Jose, and Antioch -- this career school served thousands through its programs in the criminal justice, dentistry, graphic design, health care, pharmacy technology, and veterinary technology disciplines. And unlike some career colleges, each of Western Career College's career training programs culminates with the awarding of an Associate in Science degree -- although several are also available as certificate programs, which allows a student to earn a Certificate of Achievement upon completion of the course.
Western Career College is also proud of the extent to which their programs meet the needs of today's industries and employers. It's a characteristic that owes to Western Career College's program advisory board, which is comprised of industry officials who meet to review the career school's students and curricula.
One of Western Career College's strongest points is the strength and breadth of its health care training courses. The college not only covers hands-on careers in registered nursing, massage therapy, and medical assisting; but office-related occupations such as health care administration and medical billing; and lesser known fields like biotechnology, ultrasound technology, and health information technology. The dental and graphics departments are also varied with dental assisting, dental hygiene, design drafting, and graphic communications programs being offered.
Western Career College's flexibility isn't limited to the topics it teaches, either. Students will find that many courses can be scheduled for the morning, afternoon, or evening, and that most programs start anew every three to six weeks. Courses that combine online components with brick-and-mortar learning are also.
Whether you choose criminal justice or veterinary technology, the faculty of Western Career College is committed to giving you the next level in career training and preparation. You won't just get the skills and knowledge, you'll learn how to think critically, work with others, and conduct yourself in a manner befitting the business world.
The Career Services Department also provides qualified students with recruitment workshops and job placement assistance. Best yet, Western Career College's associate degree programs will also boost your education and talents in areas like math, communication, and computers -- making you a well-rounded prospective employee in the process.
