If you want to explore career opportunities in restoring someone's health in accordance with holistic health, then homeopathy may be a viable path for you to pursue. By using a single remedy to balance someone's mental, emotional and physical characteristics, homeopathic colleges include classes in anatomy, physiology and pathology. After all, these holistic health schools want students to understand western medical pathology in order to communicate effectively with health care providers as well as knowing when to refer patients to a medical doctor or nearby hospital.

Options at Holistic Health Schools
Some holistic health schools include courses via distance learning. By watching recorded videos, students at homeopathic colleges are able to have a flexible schedule. Most curriculums include a vast program with case studies so homeopathic students may become well educated on the topic. While enrolled in homeopathic colleges, students are eligible to tap into resources of North American Society of Homeopaths (NASH), a professional organization for homeopaths in America and Canada.

NASH's student liaison program enables future homeopaths to keep abreast of legislative, educational and practice issues. There's also an extensive tape library and journal archive which students have access to in order to round out their education. In addition, students enrolled in a homeopathic college may get a mentor through NASH in order to have a supervisor during their clinical studies. Students are also eligible for NASH conference discounts and the opportunity to publish their work in the annual journal, The American Homeopath.

NASH also works toward furthering the profession as a whole since the organization was founded to set standards of competency and to certify individuals in the practice of classical homeopathy in order to inform and protect health care consumers in search of homeopathic treatments. In fact, NASH has a code of ethics which includes a variety of topics such as responsibility to patients in terms of adhering to the highest standards of treating them with dignity, respect and freedom from prejudice. Another aspect of the code of ethic is confidentiality and scope of practice. As taught in homeopathic colleges, if the treatment is beyond a homeopath's capacity or skill, the patient should be referred to an appropriate health care practitioner.

Lessons Learned at Homeopathic Colleges
In addition, the homeopath should not make any promises to a patient in terms of the result of treatment although the patient must be informed about the professional's goal to strengthen the patient's level of health. Although the homeopath has been appropriately schooled at holistic health schools, they are ineligible to use the title "doctor" as this would falsely represent they are a registered medical doctor unless of course, they are already licensed as an MD, DO, ND, DC, OMD, etc. Plus, an assistant may not be eligible to be called a nurse unless they are already licensed by the Nursing Licensing Board of their residing state.

Furthermore, after attending a homeopathic college and prior to actually practicing homeopathy, the graduate should sit for the homeopathic certification exam. Licensing is also an option in which each state has its own rules and regulations.
