If your desire in life is to help people, but you aren't interested in conventional medicine, you might instead wish to pursue alternative methods of healing as a career. Unlike with most mainstream forms of medicine, alternative (or holistic) modes of healing are concerned with the spiritual aspect of a patient's well-being. One in particular, hypnotherapy, addresses both a person's spiritual and mental health through a number of different treatments.

But before you can embark on a rewarding career in hypnotherapy, you'll first need the proper training and education -- things that you will find at the proper hypnotherapy school or program.

Getting Inside the Minds of Hypnotherapy Students
When you enroll in a hypnotherapy school, you'll take courses in such subjects as hypno-healing, clinical guided imagery, analytical hypnotherapy, regression hypnotherapy, clinical hypnotherapy, medical hypnosis, psychosynthesis, holotropics, cellular release therapy, and intuition.

Selecting a hypnotherapy school is more complicated than deciding upon a conventional school. For example, while most other professions and industries have government-backed accrediting agencies that oversee the schools where future professionals are trained, no such organization exists for hypnotherapy training. The closest thing to it is the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), which is an organization created by the Hypnotist Examining Council, a self-regulating body intended to govern over practitioners of hypnosis and hypnotherapy. However, this does not discredit the American College of Healthcare Executives as it seems to be a widely respected and looked to organization within the field of hypnotherapy and various hypnotherapy schools that exist around the country.

One must remember though, that hypnotherapy skills are only there to provide you with the proper training in hypnosis; they cannot grant you and sort of license or certification to practice because, unlike with some other careers and industries, neither the state nor federal governments require that you earn a certification or license in order to practice hypnosis. Instead, the only certification that you may earn is through a industry-specific, and self-regulated, organization such as the American College of Healthcare Executives. In fact, the American College of Healthcare Executives seems to be the go-to agency for certification as it reports to have certified approximately 9,000 hypnotherapists from all over the world over the course of its operation.

Career Potential for Hypnotherapists
Although, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) does not have any official data on the job outlook for hypnotherapists, the American College of Health Executives states that job opportunities are expected to grow as more and more people turn to alternative modes of therapy and medicine. In addition, the wages for a job in hypnotherapy can reportedly be very good. According to Salary.com, a qualified hypnotherapist may earn anywhere from $50 to $150 an hour, while a full-time licensed hypnotherapist may earn as much as $75,000 on an annual basis.
