How do I become a Personal Fitness Trainer?
Although no formal postsecondary coursework is required to apply for personal training certification, you must have a good knowledge of anatomy, biomechanical concepts, current position papers pertaining to special populations, exercise physiology, program design guidelines, and training adaptations.

What you do need, however, is to take and pass a certification exam in order to be hired at most fitness centers. There are three major accrediting organizations that offer exams that lead to personal fitness trainer certification: the National Academy of Sports Medicine, the National Strength and Conditioning Association Certification Commission, and the American College of Sports Medicine.

Because each certification exam is intense, it’s a smart idea to take a training course that will help prepare you.
Usually, the only official requiremetns to sit for the exams are to have a high school diploma, and to be certified in CPR.  Exams will have both a written section and a practical in which you must demonstrate your knowledge of exercise science, workout techniques, and human physiology.

What will I learn Personal Fitness Training school?
Many times the most convenient course of study for personal fitness trainers is a certification program. Personal fitness trainer programs begin with students taking basic classes. Here, they'll learn about the body and how to work with others. Eventually, they'll go on to earn their certification and gain more real world experience by working alongside an already-experienced personal fitness trainer. They can then go on to work with their very own clients and keep their skills up-to-date by attending fitness conventions and taking some additional classes.

At personal fitness trainer schools, you can expect to learn all abou the human body as it relates to fitness and exercise, as well as practical hands-on exercise techniques. You’ll take courses in areas like exercise science, anatomy and physiology, nutrition, weight management and weight training, fitness program design, bodybuilding, training adaptations, and more.

In addition, a good personal fitness trainer program will include some business skills and communications courses so that you will learn how to work with clients, and understand their fitness needs.

After completing a personal fitness trainer program, you can take your certification exam. Once you earn the credentials, you will be qualified to offer customized personal fitness training services to all types of clients, including those who may have medical conditions.

For advancement in the field, such as if you wish to became the manager of a fitness facility or health club, it usually requires that you pursue a  bachelor’s degree in exercise science or a related area.
